Good evening everyone!
My name is Trevor Parkins and today is 2/21/19
Today we will be talking about Manny Machado heading to the San Diego Padres and the latest rumors on free agent, Bryce Harper.
Today, the San Diego Padres officially announced that they signed free agent Manny Machado to a 10 year $300M deal. The deal also includes an opt-out on Machado’s side after the 2023 season. I think that this is a really good move for the Padres. They are still in the process of rebuilding but I believe that they can be real contenders in the 2020 season. They have guys like Manny Machado, Eric Hosmer, Will Myers who are already stars in the MLB.
But the biggest thing about the Padres is their farm system. They have the #1 farm system in all of baseball. The Padres have 10 top 100 prospects such as Fernando Tatis Jr #2 overall prospect in the MLB, Makenzie Gore #15 overall prospect in the MLB, Luis Urias #23 overall prospect in the MLB and so many others! If these prospect pan out to what they are projected to be, the San Diego Padres will be the Golden State Warriors of baseball. I am looking forward to what this team can do in the future.
As of today, there are only 2 teams that are in on free agent, Bryce Harper. Those 2 teams are the San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies. Harper seems to want to go to the Giants but they are not offering him the same amount of money and years that the Phillies are. So, Harper can go to where he wants to for a little less money, or he can be somewhere he doesn’t want to be and make a ton of money. I think that he should go to the Giants because that’s where he wants to play and he will be near his childhood home in Las Vegas. It shouldn’t all be about the money. I hope he follows his heart and goes to San Francisco.
